John Owens
John has always felt God graciously blessed him with a love of music, but he also has felt called in seemingly diverse directions. After graduating from PUC in 1999 with a degree in Theology, John graduated from Loma Linda University School of Medicine in 2004. He recently finished his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He is now working as an attending physician in the Department of PM&R at Loma Linda University and the Loma Linda VA Hospital.
Often John is asked how he can do both, music and medicine. “It has been tough but God has opened up so many doors for me” recounts John. “God has given me opportunities to minister with music in ways I would never have dreamed.” John started singing with the Heritage singers while in college and was then asked to sing on the VOP family reunion videos.
While in Medical school John released his first album, RETURN. It was difficult balancing the rigors of medicine with a blossoming music ministry but “when God calls you to do something, you do it” John says smiling. God continued to show his faithfulness and purpose by opening doors for John to complete a second album, SATISFIED, while John was completing his difficult Internship. Once again he combined his efforts with singer/songwriters Marc Judd and Scott Reed. Also coming on board was his friend and producer Aaron Hwang.
“I am really excited about this CD” asserts John. “This album has a definite worshipful flavor that has grown out of my love of leading people, at concerts and at my church, into the presence of God. I really believe that people are going to connect with this album in a deep way. The songs are great and the arrangements are fresh and alive.”
John lives in Redlands, CA with the biggest blessing in his life, his wife Catherine and the their biggest blessings, his daughter Madeleine and new son, Samuel. “Watching my daughter grow to love Jesus and learning to praise him has been the most fulfilling thing in my life. You should see her dance when the music starts” laughs John!
